I fundamentally disagree. I think another big chink in the armor of the climate movement is that it is cynically seized on by political operatives who are at least as disinterested in actually pursuing environmental solutions as any climate change denier.

Getting some lip service from a shiny polished politician seems to be quite enough for some people to feel like they did their part. That doesn't do a damn thing to move the needle.

There's also quite a bit of disingenuous chatter supporting do-nothing politicians on this issue. Deception and disingenuous messaging pushes a bunch of people right off the fence who would be ostensible supporters. That's especially true if the lies come from political leaders.

My biggest gripe from the environmental finger waggers in the US Congress for instance, is that they haven't done much of anything to cut the government's emissions - at all. We know the Dept. of Defense is one of, if not the single biggest contributor to carbon emissions on the planet. Military emissions were not targeted by the Paris Climate Accord, as toothless as it was.

A single fighter jet uses more fuel and spews more carbon into the atmosphere in 1 hour than a family of 4 does in a year.

But the climate minded politicians will tell that family of 4 to tighten their belt, pay more taxes for HEATING fuel and then sign Trump's next NDAA before hopping on a plane to their 3,000 square foot vacation home.

Vote? For whom?

I'll vote for someone who vows to put the entire political class in a solar powered rocket to the sun. But my belt and most people's belts are tight enough. I won't vote for some rich jerk to take food off my table while lining the pockets of Boeing and General Dynamics.
