Great piece! I'm appalled that I'm the first person to reply to it, which makes me think it's buried by Medium too...

But I especially appreciate the irony of USA Today reaching out to a representative from the NSA for input on why everything is fine and dandy with our dystopian surveillance state's intrusions.

It's like asking a hog farmer about the benefits of a vegan diet.

I had to leave Facebook because it's clear that beyond carrying water for the state's narratives, it's also a terrible dopamine roach motel. There is no healthy outcome from spending time on and building content for Facebook. It all becomes a perverse web of unpleasantness and adversarial interchange.

That's especially true if you are suspect of the state. Facebook is happy to let you battle your ideological opposite, and to referee only when it's clear one of you is getting close to a truth they don't want widely spread.
