As Medium author BJ Campbell points out: there is no gun evaporation fairy. Guns exist. There are lots of them. Banning them would mean tacitly arming tens of thousands of other men to go door to door. It would cost billions and billions of dollars every year for the foreseeable future.

It would also involve the repeal of not just one of the 10 original rights enumerated in the Bill of Rights, but two, because that pesky 4th amendment prevents unreasonable searches and seizures.

Also, you would need to rewrite or repeal the Posse Comitatus act which restrains the Federal government from using the military to enforce domestic policy — because you would need to use the military to pull off your ban.

There’s also the business of the 10–20 states that have civilian high gun ownership just gumming up the works through lawsuits and other legal countermeasures. You might be able to repeal the 2a but you won’t be able to ban gun ownership in those states…

And lastly, there are people who will not give up their guns unless YOU or someone YOU HIRE shoots them in the face.

Now, I’m a gun owner, but I don’t advocate shooting anyone in the face just because I disagree with them. However if you go pointing guns first, then you are not solving any problems. You’re causing them.
