A similar aphorism I heard recently: it's not hypocrisy, you're just powerless.
The powerful seem like they're murderous, duplicitous turds because they definitely are, and any energy spent on rationalizing or accounting for their behavior otherwise is a waste of time.

You need to disconnect yourself from their power centers as much as possible.
